Fort Mcmurray, AB
In Canada's Alberta province, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo includes Fort McMurray as an urban service area. It is situated in the Athabasca oil sands in northeast Alberta, surrounded by boreal forest. It has been crucial to the growth of the country's petroleum industry. Residents of Fort McMurray were forced to evacuate because of the 2016 wildfire, which also left extensive damage.
Many residents, politicians, and members of the media continue to refer to Fort McMurray as a city despite the fact that it is now officially a "urban service area." Between 1947 and 1962, Fort McMurray was known simply as McMurray.
