Advancing Energy Industry Education in Canada

Last year, the SPE Canadian Educational Trust was converted into a new entity, the SPE Canadian Educational Foundation (SPECEF). With the new governance structure, SPECEF has the flexibility to create new programs, scholarships and energy educational initiatives that will benefit SPE Canada members.

Prior to the governance change, the SPE Educational Trust gave more than CAD 300,000 to Canadian post-secondary institutions in the form of bursaries
supported women in science and engineering through WISEST
and donated to science fairs in Calgary and Edmonton.

The SPECEF Board has plans to continue supporting Canadian energy education and grow its portfolio of programs. First on the list was the creation of a formalized Canadian post-secondary scholarship program aimed at science and engineering students, with committee representation from SPE Sections across Canada.
